This whole new “anti-feminist” movement is killing me. KILLING ME. I would never force anyone into being a feminist, although I would appreciate it if you at least listened to my point of view before completely dissing the subject, but anti-feminism? It feels like…

Can you name one reason why I should only care about women in western culture?
Maybe if ya’ll thought a bit more about what the world needs rather than what only you personally need you would see feminism’s worth. Just because something isn’t happening to you doesn’t mean it’s not happening.

I mention western society simply because Feminism, throughout its history, has done fuck-all for women anywhere else. All through its first two waves it was all about the upper-class white women in america.

Even today, Feminism’s focus is still largely on western society, with other areas of the world basically being considered a “side project” if you will.

So before you start telling me to “think more about what the world needs”, you should realize that your own movement is guilty of doing exactly what you’re accusing me of.

And Feminism still has very little worth, even outside of western society:

Feminists fought against gender neutral rape laws in India, arguing that “there is a physicality [in] rape” and that it would make things “more complicated for judges.”

Feminists fought against gender neutral rape laws in Israel, claiming that changing the law would result in men filing false rape claims.

Think about that. The Feminists in India, a country that holds 1/6th of the world’s population, fought against gender neutral rape laws. They *purposefully* made it so that men could not file a rape charge against a woman.

That alone has more of a negative effect than half of the negative shit Feminists do in western society.

Okay, firstly let me start my apologizing for my delayed response, I’ve been away from the computer all day!
I see we are actually getting down to business with your response including citations and the like so I’ll stop pulling my punches and we can have a real discussion.

Okay, I’m not going to deny what those articles said, there are woman’s rights activists out there who debated against gender neutral rape laws, at least party. The first point I want you to understand is that not every single feminist agrees with every other feminist. Feminists, believe it or not, are human, and therefore are different. Now, back to the articles. Although no one, in my understanding of the articles at least, denied men could be sexually abused. When these women’s rights activists are stating that they do not believe in ‘gender neutral’ laws, I don’t believe they are trying to say men cannot be raped. I believe what they are saying is that men and women are physically different, and I’m sure you would not deny this fact either.

Women and men do have a different anatomy, as stated in the second article (The Jerusalem Post), making all rape laws gender neutral poses the rick of harming female victims of rape because it creates a very solid foundation for men to counter argue that it was indeed the women who raped the man and not the other way around. I think the Professor Orit Kamir makes a valid point when she says there here:

"What will happen now is that every time a woman files a criminal complaint against a man for rape, he will countercharge that the woman caused him to penetrate her body, that he did it without wanting to,” she said. “He will then make a counter complaint, so that there will be two files in court, his against hers. This will block women, silence them and prevent them from going to the police.”

Does this mean that I believe that the man is at fault every time? No. Does it mean I believe women are incapable of committing rape and/or sexual assault against a man? Not at all. This simply means I believe we need to acknowledge the fact that men and women are physically different and that a standard ‘one size fits all’ law would not be appropriate for issues like rape and sexual assault.

Going back to your Western Woman point, I would like to say that yes feminism was started by white middle-upper class women. Feminism all started with suffrage, these women fought for the right to vote, so that they would no longer be considered second class citizens.

Now I am making an assumption that you are a women, however even if you are not I’m sure you know and love at least one woman, be it a mother, wife, daughter, sister, lover, cousin, best friend. Now with out feminism you and/or you loved ones would not be able to do any of the following things:
Vote (obviously) but also, own property, legaly enter into a contract, start your own buisness, get a job outside of your home, choose a profession other than nun, nurse or teacher, professions like being a doctor, a lawyer, the head of state, the head of a company, a member of the armed forces. If feminism did not exist women would not be able to get a divorce, have an abortion, use birth control, say yes to sex with any person of their choosing, say no to sex with any person of their choosing, have sex with out being married. Women would not be able to go to college or receive scholarships. With out feminism women would not be permitted to wear tattoos, or walk freely into a bar, wear pants, choose if they want to wear make up or not.

Feminism gives women the right to choose if they want to get married, and have children, to go to work, and wear which ever clothes they so choose. I know that some members of women’s right groups may be protesting against laws but please think of all the laws that feminism has helped to achieve! Laws against marital rape, laws against stalking, against child molestation, against sexual harassment, against spousal abuse, against rape! For fuck sake, feminism helped create laws to ensure BOTH parents receive parental leave.

This, in essence, sums up my basic problems with the anti-feminist movement. You and the women you love get to enjoy all the things that feminism has achieved, you get to vote and go to school and get married to the person of your choosing and yet you say that feminism is wrong, not important, outdated. Do you not understand why that feels like a slap in the face? Do you not see how offensive it is to the memory of all the women who fought for you, so you could have a better life than they did?

How can you honestly say feminism does nothing for you, when we (as two women) would not even be allowed to have this conversation with out it.

It feels like anti-sexual education. These people are saying “feminists are wrong because they are forcing their beliefs onto other people, here let me prove it by forcing my beliefs onto you.”
